Steve Stedillie, Botanist - Steve is a native to Colorado, born and raised in the beautiful mountain town of Sedalia. He spent his youth outside, exploring the mountains, riding horses and motorcycles, playing football and baseball, and helping his parents with the chores of the family cattle ranch. He loves Colorado, and says he will only leave if it becomes too crowded!
Steve received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Botany, and a minor in History, from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Following graduation he worked in the Solar Energy Industry for 2 years. He worked his way up the ranks from a Residential Installer to Commercial Project Manager in a very short time period, and was in charge of overseeing the construction of a 1.2 Megawatt Photovoltaic Array at Buckley Air Force Base. This project was the largest Solar Electric Array ever to be installed by a Colorado Company, took up 6 acres and used over 5,000 Solar modules! Since High School, Steve has been fascinated with plants. He has been growing a variety of food crops and medicinal herbs hydroponically for over 7 years. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Colorado Aquaponics and deepen his knowledge and understanding of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems, Urban Food Production and Food Justice. He believes local food production is THE most important question that needs to be addressed by our society, and he hopes that he may have some small role in reaching a socially valuable answer. Steve loves to meet friendly people so come down to the GrowHaus and say hello! |
